Yatton Park to Bloom with Meaning this Year

Yatton Park in Tauranga is set to transform into a vibrant "memory meadow" of daffodils in time for Daffodil Day this August. The Cancer Society Waikato/Bay of Plenty, in partnership with EVES Real Estate and Tauranga City Council, is encouraging locals to buy daffodil bulbs to honour those impacted by cancer. All proceeds go toward supporting free services for patients and their whānau.

The goal is to plant 10,000 bulbs, with a community planting day happening on May 10 at 1pm in Yatton Park. The flowers will bloom as a powerful and reflective tribute, creating a special space for remembrance and unity. Bulbs can also be bought online via the Cancer Society’s website.

Mount Golf Club’s $3M Glow-Up: ‘The Dunes’ Green Opens for Play

Mount Maunganui Golf Club has just opened what could be one of the biggest practice greens in the world, a massive 6000sq m putting paradise named The Dunes.

General manager Michael Williams says it’s the biggest investment the club has made in 30 years, with over $3 million going into upgrades. The green alone cost nearly $250k and includes an 18-hole layout within it. A new $2.8 million driving range is also in the works, due to open in the next couple of months.

Designed by Kiwi golfing legend Phil Tataurangi, The Dunes is all about upping the fun while giving 1400+ members more room to train and play. The name nods to the course’s close proximity to the beach.

The official ribbon was cut last week by Tauranga Mayor Mahé Drysdale, with junior champ Nero Souter sinking the first putt.

Tataurangi summed it up best: “Golf gets a bit serious sometimes, this is just intended to have lots of fun.”
