Meanwhile, The Doctors Bayfair has opened a brand new medical practice in the Mount, with more space and upgraded facilities to serve one of NZ’s fastest-growing areas.

New Bayfair Medical Centre Opens to Serve Mount’s Growing Population

The Doctors Bayfair has officially opened a new, modern medical practice in Mount Maunganui, replacing its outdated 30-year-old building. Now with nine consult rooms and a larger acute walk-in area, the new facility is designed to meet the needs of nearly 10,000 enrolled patients and accommodate future growth in one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing regions.

The centre also supports GP training and offers services from eight GPs, 10 nurses, and allied health professionals. It welcomes new enrolments and casual patients. The team also praised the Government’s recently announced 24/7 urgent care service for Tauranga, saying it would ease pressure on local doctors working after-hours.

Mount’s Old Cinema Gets New Life

The former Event Cinemas building in downtown Mount Maunganui is being transformed by local owners Leigh and Roberto Stevens. Closed since 2020 due to Covid-19, the iconic site is nearly done with a full renovation that includes converting two theatres into undercover parking and two others into flexible spaces for boardrooms or functions.

The revamped space retains nostalgic cinema features like poster light boxes and a foyer booth. With new stairwells, glass frontages, and modern amenities, the couple hopes it becomes a vibrant community drawcard. They’re now looking for tenants to bring new life to the location.
