Cool Move: Big Win for Tauranga’s Trade Game

McAlpine Hussmann, the crew behind the chillers in your local supermarket and aircon in your favourite stores, has just dropped a $3M upgrade in Mount Maunganui. After years spread across five different sites, they’ve finally brought it all under one roof on Portside Drive, and it’s a big deal.

We’re talking storage stacked four levels high, a slick new showroom, training space for up-and-coming tradies, and a full-blown testing lab. It’s a massive step up, not just for the company, but for the whole region.

Mayor Mahé Drysdale was there to cut the ribbon and called it a vote of confidence in Tauranga’s future. With 80 staff working on site (and 390 across NZ), this move levels up their whole operation and plants a big flag in the ground for local manufacturing.

Not bad for a company that’s been quietly keeping things cool for nearly 90 years.

New Bay of Plenty Constable Finds His Calling

Rotorua’s newest police recruit, Constable Ethan Semple, says joining the force feels like “stepping into a calling.” One of six new Bay of Plenty officers graduating from Police Wing 383 last week, Semple will soon begin duty in Rotorua after receiving the Police Commissioner’s Award for leadership.

Inspired by his brother, Semple says he was never satisfied in his previous jobs until a recruiter encouraged him to apply. Now, he says wearing the uniform isn’t just a job, “it’s a way of life.”

Three new recruits will be based in Tauranga, two in Rotorua, and one in Tūrangi.
