Classrooms Coming: Bay Schools Set for $33M Education Boost

Maungatapu School and Kawerau South School are among six Central North Island schools set to receive a share of a $33 million government investment for 32 new classrooms.

Maungatapu will get three new classrooms and Kawerau South two, helping relieve overcrowding due to rising student numbers. Maungatapu’s principal says the timing is perfect as they're currently at max capacity, even using the library as a classroom.

Kawerau South’s principal says growth is driven by more families moving to the area. Tauranga Special School will also receive two satellite classrooms at Te Puke Primary.

Construction is set to begin within 12 months.
