Classic Flyers Turns 21 with Open Day Celebration

Mount Maunganui’s Classic Flyers Aviation Museum is celebrating 21 years since it first opened, marking the milestone with a free open day on May 28 and a special King’s Birthday weekend celebration.

Founded by pilot Andrew Gormlie and a group of aircraft enthusiasts, the museum has grown from one building to five and now hosts training for youth, community events, and large airshows. Volunteers and community donations have played a huge role in its success, creating a hands-on experience that feels like a "living museum."

Mount-based Syos Aerospace just made history.

The heavy-lifting drone and robotics company took out Company of the Year at the NZ Hi-Tech Awards after quietly building tech for the British Defence Force and scaling fast from the Bay.

They’re not alone. Deep Dive Division, the Māori-owned diving innovators behind Tauranga’s artificial reefs, won Māori Company of the Year – proving world-class things are being built right here in our backyard.
