A World-First for Tauranga
Good Morning Scoopers!
That rain last night was wild if you’re anywhere near me, sounded like the roof was gonna lift off. Fingers crossed we get some clear skies for the weekend ahead.

Plan Ahead: Overnight SH29 Closures for Roadworks
State Highway 29 over the Kaimāī Range will be closed nightly from Saturday, June 15 to Wednesday, June 19, between 8pm and 3:30am, to allow contractors to carry out essential maintenance work.
The closure will affect both directions, with work including drain clearing, sign maintenance, road marking, and surface repairs. NZTA says full closures are necessary to ensure the safety of both road workers and the thousands of vehicles that use the route each day.
Detours will be in place but could add significant time to your journey — especially for freight and long-distance travellers. Emergency services will have access throughout, and residents can access their properties from their respective sides of the closure.

Check the NZTA Journey Planner before you travel and consider delaying your trip if possible.

Tauranga Centre Rolls Out World-Leading Cancer Tech
Tauranga’s Kathleen Kilgour Centre (KKC) has become the first in the Asia Pacific to treat cancer patients using the Elekta Evo linac machine, featuring advanced Iris AI imaging technology. This new tech provides clearer, more accurate visuals, allowing for more personalized and precise radiation therapy.
The innovation enhances treatment accuracy by helping doctors better visualize tumours and adjust for any internal changes during therapy. Over 90% of KKC patients are publicly funded, and the centre has aimed to bring top-tier care to the Bay since its opening in 2014.
The milestone was marked by an on-site blessing and attended by Tauranga MP Sam Uffindell, who praised the advancement as a major step forward for regional healthcare.
